Jump Rope for Heart / American Heart Association

Here is a message from our awesome PE teacher Mrs. Galbraith!

Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about how to take care of our hearts, spreading the message to friends and family, and helping others when we can!  Megan Dodd from the American Heart Association came to our school to share Heart Healthy messages to kick off our event.

The American Heart Association's goal is to improve the cardiovascular health of Americans.  They will challenge our kids to start living a healthy lifestyle now to prevent problems later; and give them an opportunity to participate in a service learning project that funds the fight against heart diseases and stroke - #1 and #5 cause of death in our country.

Your child will bring home some information for your review.  It includes a donation envelope as well as a parent letter detailing the Jump Rope for Heart information.  This fundraiser is not mandatory, but many students have been excited about the opportunity to help those (especially kids) with heart defects and 'sick' hearts.

The Keystone Elementary Jump Rope for Heart event days are February 10 (Day 1) and February 12 (Day 3).  All donations (cash, checks, and online) will be due to Mrs. Galbraith on February 10 at 3:00 pm .  Please join us in teaching our students the importance of being heart healthy for life!

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at agalbraith@benton.k12.ia.us.

Keystone Elem. American Cancer Society Fundraiser & Coaches vs Cancer

Every year the Benton Girls Basketball team has an event at a home game raising funds for the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Fisher is a Kindergarten teacher at Keystone Elementary and is a coach for the Lady Bobcat Basketball Team and we would like to show our support for her and her family.  Mrs. Fisher's mom and mother in law have both been battling cancer for the last year and a half.  We are asking that all kids wear blue or camouflage to school on Friday to show our support.  We are also asking that each kid bring $1 to donate towards the American Cancer Society and their Coaches vs Cancer fundraiser.  Please feel free to send more but only if your means allow for it.

Mrs. Fisher's family have been lifelong Benton Bobcats and we'd love all kids to show their support for Mrs. Fisher and her family.  All proceeds for this event will go towards the American Cancer Society and the Benton County Relay for Life Chapter.

During the game on Friday there will be games for kids and adults alike, a baked goods sale, and t-shirts to purchase. If you are looking for a great family event check it out.

Thanks for all of your continued support for all things Benton Community!

Mr. Junge
